I am a writer, teacher, and Professor of Film at Cornish College of the Arts. I have published personal essays, feature essays, and reviews for a variety of publications, including The Iowa Review, Film Comment, MovieMaker, The Seattle Times, The Stranger, Cinema Studies Journal and The Wallace Stevens Journal. My writing has been featured on the National Public Radio station KUOW 94.9, at Bumbershoot (Seattle's music and arts festival), and my book recommendations were regular parts of Nancy Guppy's TV show, Art Zone. In 2006 I was selected by The Stranger as "One to Watch" in its annual "genius" awards. And  I have been executive director of Northwest Film Forum and Richard Hugo House. And I am the executive producer of a TV pilot about food called What She's Having.

My novel, Between Lakes, is represented by the Hill Nadell literary agency.

What I’ve been doing since 2015. I’ve been Professor of Film and Chair of Film and Media at Cornish, where I’ve created the Film curriculum and taught screenwriting and film history classes, among other courses.

Before that, I was executive director of Northwest Film Forum, Seattle's premiere film arts center. A relatively recent interview on KUOW 94.9 catches up on news at the Film Forum since 2010.

Currently, I am writing: I’ve completed, by myself or with a writing partner, eight screenplays, a novel, and a collection of stories, some of which appeared in public at the Rendezvous Room, for example, and at Bumbershoot. In each case, the stories appeared in collaboration with Devin Sullivan, who wrote (and sang)  songs inspired by aspects of the stories.

What I have done, otherwise. For five years I was executive director of Richard Hugo House, the literary center in Seattle. I launched the Hugo Literary Series there, expanded the Writing Classes, and the Youth programs.

What I have done, other than that. Reviews, speeches, memoire, editing, ghostwriting, and taught the history of literature and the history of film.
